Super Bowl Pick

For the second straight time, I’ll be away from Tampa when the Super Bowl is played there. Last time I flew out to Los Angeles on game day for work. But was able to attend a kickin’ Super Bowl party at the home of a friend of a friend. This time we’re out here on our own in San Antonio. I intend to turn the game on for a few minutes here and there to “check the status”. And also becuase we’re a little homesick, so seeing the stadium (even if it is done up in NFL livery) will be a nice reminder of home. (more…)

Why Division I-A College Football Will NEVER Have A Playoff

That’s a bold statement, don’t you think? So do I. In fact I waited an entire day before deciding to sit down and write. It came to me after reading some that Stewie wrote about the Arizona Cardinals (and last year’s Giants) being the savior of the anti-playoff argument. In short, the hot team that invalidates the regular season. (more…)

King Of Football 2009

If you could change football, what would you do? Would you change things drastically? Or just a little bit? TALB takes a little from column A and a little from column B. Some of my ideas are just plain out there. Others are rooted in reality. I hope you enjoy the 2009 edition of TALB’s King of Football. (more…)

Michael Clayton: STFU

You know what, Michael Clayton shut your yap. Jon Gruden may have been many things as a coach. And not all of those things were good. But you sir are not in any position to be critical of your coaches, no matter who they might be. Every time you stepped on the field over the last couple of seasons you’ve committed a huge gaffe. Be it a fumble, a bad block, or a drop you are not a good receiver at this point in your career.

You’d be better served to work on your game instead of flapping your gums.

Why Gruden Is Gone

This post was originally titled “Gruden On The Hot Seat”. I started it a few days ago (really), and figured I’d polish it off this very weekend for publication. Well, the Glazer boys beat me to the punch. Showing both Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen the door on Friday. Given that not even the haterest of the haters were expecting this I thought I’d rejigger my points and present some reasons why they are now gone. (more…)

Bucs Fire Jon Gruden and Bruce Allen

In case you missed the news (Trib, Times, SI, ESPN) the Bucs have fired their all-time winningest coach, again. To say that we at TALB HQ are shocked might be a bit of an overstatement. But we are definitely surprised. The consensus in the hallways has been that Gruden had to win a playoff game in 2009 or GTFO. After the past two December Swoons, we figured the shiny Vince Lombardi trophy the Glazers walked by every day on the way to their offices was the only thing keeping Chuckie on staff to this point. We were wrong. I’ll go into a few things later this weekend about why I thought JG was going to be on the hot seat in 2009. (more…)

BCS Title Game: Final Analysis

Okay, so it’s nearly 24 hours after the fact, but I was a tired so-and-so. If you watched the game, you know exactly what happened. But the one nuance that I missed until re-watching a portion of the game had to do with how the Gators’ defense handled the OU offense. (more…)
