Yawn

The Bucs’ preseason schedule kicked off this past weekend; and there was much rejoicing. Around these parts it was simply because (sort of) real football had made it’s return. Plastic-armor-clad gladiators strode upon the gridiron once again to do battle for our amusement.

But What Exactly Did You ExpectBucs Logo
Jeff Garcia, lately, has sounded like they betrayed wife. How dare my man stray. How dare he entertain the possibility of another? Yet, Jeffy, don’t forget that up until last year you were the other woman in Jon Gruden’s eyes. If a fan learns nothing else from Jon Gruden’s tenure in Pewter it should be this; he likes him some quarterbacks. It’s nothing personal Jeffy, it’s just how he is. He has a wandering eye. If you can’t deal with that, then maybe you need to extract yourself from the relationship.

Mahi
I’ve made it through most of the 3rd quarter of the Bucs-Fins collision. My initial impressions are that the defense seems to be “as expected”, Michael Bennett actually has something left, and after Brian Griese I’m not sure who our number three QB will be. Simms The Younger may have talked himself off the team already, but he did well enough Saturday night. Even taking two sacks and getting right back up. Though, one preseason game does not prove anything. If he’s able to keep this up, he should be able to land a roster spot elsewhere in the League. And net the Bucs a trade in the process.

Dead Horse
You thought SpyGate (argggh) was over? Not so much, thanks to Marty Fennelly. It seems that The Commish found the Patriots had first used video taped “assistance” against the Buccaneers in 2000; taping them during the preseason, and using that information during a regular season match-up a few weeks later. I read this story, and then thought of something Monte Kiffin said a few years ago; (paraphrasing) “We don’t change our schemes based on the opponent, we play our game and make them adjust.”

My Touchdowns. Let Me Show You Them.Tebow
Mergz has perused the latest SEC record book, and found that Superman has claimed the top spot in quite a few records. However, his biggest find is that Junior Quarterback Tim Tebow needs just 19 walks into “The House” to secure the all-time SEC rushing touchdowns record (currently at 49, Tim has 31). Given the team’s supposed shift of rushing focus from Tebow to actual running backs, I don’t Mergz’ optimism that the record will be eclipsed this year. But it is quite likely that the man-child may not be a good fit in the NFL, and could stay for his Senior season. And it is a near (barring injury) certainty that Superman will, in-fact, find 19 rushing touchdowns over the course of (at least) 24 contests. In case you don’t care to click over and read the article here are some of the players Tebow has the chance to eclipse:
Herscel Walker (49)
Cadillac Williams (45)
Bo Jackson (43)
Shaun Alexander (41)
Emmitt Smith (36)
