The Case Against Ohio State
As the first lights from the dawn of the 2008 College football season begin to peek over the horizon, let’s look at the one team that will most assuredly, NOT be playing in Miami for all of the (mythical) marbles.
As I said back in December, Ohio State managed to find a chair before the music stopped last season. While it may not be true that everyone outside Buckeye Nation is rooting against the Ownedhio State University, they probably aren’t rooting for them either. And with good cause. In 2006 the Buckeyes’ only roadblock to Arizona was Michigan; and that game was a shoot-out until the final stanza. Then in 2007 they managed to (with the help of the schedule-makers) duck the only other decent team in their conference (Wisconsin). While they may be the beasts of the Big Ten, they can’t seem to hang with their counterparts from the other leagues.
We will find out a ton about this team on September 13th when they face the Trojans. If they whiff, I can’t imagine a scenario in which they could climb high enough in the polls to sneak back into the championship game again.
Thoughts?
