Short and Sweet
Before the King of Football takes the field, I’ll quickly run down a few things that are going on in football during this down time before the Super Bowl.
Aggie-tated
Texas A&M is out of its collective mind. The Aggies believe that they have some kind of exclusive use of the term “12th Man”. And is as much they have filed a
restraining order against the Seattle Seahawks for their use of the term. First off, the Seahawks have been using the 12th Man gimmick since the 80’s. Where was the lawsuit then A&M? Oh yeah, the Seahawks weren’t very good so it wasn’t worth your time. Now that they’re in the Super Bowl you’ll spend the money to try and sue them.
The USPTO will issue a patent or trademark for any damn thing anymore. They then wait for the court cases to determine if they were right or not. I think this will be tough sledding for the Aggies as the concept of a 12th Man in a football environment is not very novel. Plus, do you folks really want to have the NFL’s army of lawyers descend upon you? If you do proceed with this action you better make sure, 100% sure, that there is nothing anywhere in the official A&M organization that might be even a little infringing upon the NFL’s marks.
Grated Cheese
Mr. Favre might be as close to retirement as he has ever been. At least if you take what he says in a recent
interview at face value. We shall see I guess. Woe unto the Packers for the next few years. They must now groom the new starting signal caller, a player who has likely taken very few professional snaps in real game situations. While Mr. Favre has often impressed the football gods with his uncanny abilities, they frown upon ego and me-first attitudes.
It was just a matter of time until this happened. The NFL Network will begin broadcasting NFL games, live, next season. The games will be played on Thursdays and Saturdays toward the end of the year.
Spit Take
The expectorant Sean Taylor of the Washington Redskins faces up to
46 years in prison should he be convicted of the assault charges filed against him.
Next Week: Was it Super?
