TALB Special: Our Condolences

We extend our deepest condolences to Tony Dungy and his family on the passing of their son James. I had thought to save this until Tuesday and include it in the regular column, but that didn’t seem appropriate. How could we talk about the game of football when the flame of a young life has been so tragically snuffed out? As for links, instead of being redundant, please head over to Sticks for everything you might need to read.

TALB is a father and can begin to understand what the loss of a child would feel like. But thankfully I haven’t had to go through that particular hell.

This space has taken the opportunity to criticize Tony Dungy as a coach at every opportunity, but do not take that to mean anything beyond that. From all accounts Tony is a man and father with few, if any, peers in this world. His contributions beyond the football field far outweigh anything he has done on the field. TALB has the utmost respect for Mr. Dungy in that regard.

As for tributes, the NFL should allow at least the Colts to wear maybe a JD sticker on their helmets this weekend. And if the League was feeling generous, it would also allow the Buccaneers to do the same. Should they feel particularly magnanimous, they could also extend the memorial to those teams’ opponents; the Falcons and Seahawks. Though I’m sure that the NFL will not allow any kind of public display of mourning.

To the best of my knowledge, no formal announcement has been made with regards to the public making any kind of memorial contribution. But I’m sure that if you were to get in contact with either All Pro Dad or the Colts, they could make sure that things get to the right place.
