I Love It When A Plan Comes Together

A lighter edition of the TALB this week. With the holidays and the recent tragedy it was tough to get into the football spirit. But the Pirates in Pewter Pants managed to win and all but secure the NFC South title. At least that’s something. But as usual, we can’t count on the Packers for a damn thing as they weren’t able to beat the Bears.

TALB Special: Our Condolences

We extend our deepest condolences to Tony Dungy and his family on the passing of their son James. I had thought to save this until Tuesday and include it in the regular column, but that didn’t seem appropriate. How could we talk about the game of football when the flame of a young life has been so tragically snuffed out? As for links, instead of being redundant, please head over to Sticks for everything you might need to read.

Bucs Out. Thunerers Keep Going.

Fantasy football playoffs are a harsh mistress. They’ll make you do weird things. Like watch a game you would normally not give a damn about. That happened to me this weekend as I tuned into the Denver-Kansas City match-up to see how my quarterback was doing. Similarly, in the NFL, a team like the Bucs at 5-9 are still mathematically alive for the playoffs. What the hell is up with that? And then you have Ricky. Ricky “Leave Me Alone” Williams, a man who can’t seem to stay away from the cameras right now. Even though he professes to want to be left to his business. I’m not sure what Ricky Williams has to do with the playoffs…. Uh, let’s get to it.

Bah Humbug!

When things go against you, they really go against you. At least that’s how it felt watching the Bucs Saturday. But at least Fox had those neat-o graphics with jingle bells and a little tiny snow plow. College bowl festivities kick-off this evening, but TALB wonders if it should. The NFL playoffs are coming into focus, though most of the teams that were in the hunt last week remain contenders. Oh, and the Colts lost; which is probably the best thing that could happen to them all season.

Let’s Do This

Our boys are in the playoffs, even if not officially yet. They’ve played well enough to sit in first place in the Dirty Souf. The Colts continue their march toward perfection. And why is it that only running backs and quarterbacks can be considered “the best player in college football”?

A Bowling We Will Go

The college football season’s end is nigh. The bowls have been filled. From Lafayette to Pasadena, from December 20th through January 4th, what passes for a post season in Division I-A college football will fill our screens and maybe even push poker aside on ESPN2. Our hometown helmet heads won a game they were supposed to win, which is a nice reversal from the last couple of seasons, and are solidly in the playoff hunt. And surprisingly, the football team from that girls’ school won their conference championship.
