The Legends Of The Fall

I just headed over to the Bucs’ forums for the first time in ages, and it still sucks. The 97ers are still in charge and can’t stand it that the Bucs are winning. Sure they feign delight at the 3-0 start, but they also take every opportunity to bash the Bucs and Gruden. One guy even had the gall to post that he is thankful that McKay’s scouting staff is still there and found Caddy. While I’m sure the scouts were able to assist in Williams’ evaluation, it was Gruden who told the young man at the Senior Bowl that he’d be a Buc. By the way, if you ever find yourself over at that claptrap (the Bucs forum) and you see someone refer to a LEGEND; those are the folks who supposedly “know” football, have been around a long time, and hate Gruden.

On a happier note, the Gators, Bulls, and Thunderers were victorious over the weekend. The Bulls and Thunderers were overmatched on paper, but came out ahead. While the Gators returned to their tradition of trashing the lower echelons of the SEC.

Pink, Cadillac

After two weeks of NFL action, things are starting to take shape. However, one must be careful not to put too much stock into just eight quarters of football. As is the custom, wild extrapolations of any given gentleman’s statistics abound throughout the football writing world. TALB ain’t too proud to get in on some of that action. However, your host will not abide too much predicting of the future when it comes to teams who handle the oblong spheroid.

Viking Funeral

I wonder how the Gruden haters around the Tampa area plan to attack the man next? The first regular season game saw two rookies make big plays on offense. That doesn’t quite jibe with the standard view of Chucky, that he’s a veterans-only kind of guy. There were a fair number of young guys out there on the carpet Sunday, so what’s the deal haters? But before that, another round of upsets in the college ranks has the polls a shakin’ as October nears and the first BCS rankings start to take shape. Though this week’s poll results did show us one of the biggest flaws in the human poll system. Miami (FL), who did not play and is 0-1, moved up one spot to 13. Simply from attrition by teams losing above. What a great system. Why are the human polls so sacred?

Oh, and I got killed in fantasy.

Come On Down

The first week of the college football season saw a slew of upsets, the debut of the new Florida Gators, and the opening salvos of the new ACC. TALB caught the middle part of the the FSU-Miami game in beautiful high-definition. It’s the only way to watch football. 2005 is looking to be the breakout year for HD football as nearly every NFL game and many of the high-profile college games will be carried in the crisp digital format.
